Justin Powers

Associate

Justin Powers is an Associate at PBM Capital, where he evaluates new biotechnology investments and works with portfolio company leadership on corporate strategy, business development, fundraising, and operational execution. He also serves as Head of Business Development at Blue Marlin Therapeutics, helping guide the company’s development strategy, partnerships, and financing efforts.

Justin has consistently pursued challenges across scientific disciplines and business. After beginning his career in medicinal chemistry of the University of Michigan, he transitioned into cancer biology and genetics during his doctoral training at Columbia University. Through that work, he recognized that scientific discovery alone is insufficient to bring new therapies to patients. Successful drug development also requires disciplined capital allocation, commercial judgment, and effective organizational execution. This realization led him to pursue an MBA at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, where he is a Batten Innovation Scholar.

Justin earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia University and his B.S. in Chemistry, with Highest University Honors, from Eastern Michigan University.
